What General Information Do I Need To Know About This Position?
The U.S. Geological Survey has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework and the selectee may be allowed to telework with supervisor approval.

As a Computer Scientist within the Office of Water Information - Center for Integrated Data Analytics (CIDA), some of your specific duties will include:
Utilize computer programming (java) in order to design, document, develop, modify, test, implement, and support new or existing applications and technical solutions.
Applies an understanding of various natural science arenas including hydrology, water quality, ground water and surface water modeling, and beach science in partnership with USGS scientists and cooperators to translate business requirements into application architecture, design, user interface and other technical specifications.
Facilitates natural resource data discovery and utility through development of tools including geospatial displays and decision support systems.
Uses agile methodologies and applies software development life cycle principles and best practices in the development and deployment of applications.
Employs testing, deployment through continuous integration and build processes, source control, and use of integrated development environments.
Interfaces with databases such as Oracle using SQL (Structured Query Language).

GS-11:
In addition to the Basic Education Requirement as described above, applicants must meet the following to qualify for the GS-11 level:
Three full years of progressively higher level graduate education or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.
One year of appropriate professional experience that is in or directly related to the duties of the position to be filled is qualifying if it is equivalent to at least the GS-09 level in the Federal service, and if it equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. Examples of such experience may include performing hardware and software analysis, and writing software in an environment that requires a good working knowledge of the syntax, capabilities, and limitations of a programming language, as well as working knowledge of and experience with the operating system under which the software operates. Successful candidates will have had the scope of assignments defined for them, but will be capable of exercising judgment in selecting specific approaches and, when necessary, making minor changes to adapt the methods to specific work situations.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
